Transitional provisions relating to rating after council amalgamations in 2007

An issue has been identified, which the department is now addressing, regarding transitional provisions relating to rating after council amalgamations in 2007 that were contained in the then Local Government Regulation 2005 and not carried over into the new legislation.
These provisions gave councils until 30 June 2012 to develop one rating system for the whole of their local government area.
These provisions were not carried over into the new legislation. A transitional regulation, backdated to 1 July 2010, is scheduled to commence next week and will continue the relevant provisions until 30 June 2011.
Further, an amendment to the Local Government (Finance, Plans and Reporting) Regulation 2010 will occur within the next few weeks to further continue these provisions until the original date of 30 June 2012.
Another local government bulletin will be issued to advise all councils when this amendment has been made.
