The Far North Queensland Infrastructure Plan 2009-2031 (FNQIP) (
1.23 MB) identifies current and future infrastructure needed to support the region's growth. It identifies about $2 billion of state government investment in infrastructure over the next four years including:
- road
- rail
- public transport
- water
- energy
- social
- community infrastructure.
The State Budget will be the principal mechanism for identifying, prioritising and delivering infrastructure projects in Far North Queensland.
Where the Queensland Government is providing major new infrastructure, land owners and developers of new areas, who stand to benefit significantly, may be required to contribute to infrastructure costs.
The Far North Queensland Infrastructure Plan - Progress Report (
1 MB) identifies completed projects, provides an update of planning studies and details new funding allocations since the release of the FNQIP in February 2009. The FNQIP—Progress Report identifies approximately $1.63 billion of state government investment in infrastructure to support the region’s growth.
The FNQIP and Progress Report supports the Far North Queensland Regional Plan 2009-2031.
The Far North Queensland Regional Plan 2009-2031 was developed under the Integrated Planning Act 1997 and remains current under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009.
